Criollo Horseback Adventures at Estancia Ranquilco, Patagonia

At Ranquilco, the horse isn’t a luxury—it’s a way of life.

Nearly every part of ranch life revolves around horses—they’re how we visit the neighbor, round up the herd, travel to town, and even how you reach us from the road’s end. Our horses, a mix of Criollo and Quarter Horse, are tough, sure-footed, and level-headed. Many were born, raised, and trained on the estancia, and they know the landscape better than anyone; you could close your eyes and they’d carry you safely home. Horses set the pace and the tone of the Ranquilco experience—grounded, connected, and of the land.

For guests, horseback riding at Ranquilco is about leaning into that rhythm. From our remote lodge, day rides head out across open countryside—through golden grasslands, up to high plateaus, or down to the Trocomán River where the water runs clear and cold, perfect for a swim or a quiet cast for trout. You might help bring in the herd for sorting, or ride out on an adventure to find the goats.

Our multi-day horse pack trips venture farther afield, tracing gaucho trails and crossing remote passes into the Patagonian Andes few ever see. Without hesitation, the horses carry you steadily across ever-changing terrain, true companions of strength and loyalty. At night, while you feast heartily around a campfire under the stars, the horses graze contentedly nearby.

Whether you’re a lifelong rider or an intrepid beginner, we invite you to connect—to your horse, to the land, and to the rhythm of the Ranquilco ride. Where horse is the heart of our Patagonian way of life.
