Frequently Asked Questions

Horaciofaqs

NEW for 2010 – All clients and volunteers must present proof of travel insurance with horse riding coverage before they will be allowed to ride at Ranquilco.

What MUST I bring?

  • a good wide brimmed sunhat (cowboy hat) with a chin strap
  • high factor sunscreen
  • long sleeved light weight shirts/ tops for riding/ walking
  • torch/ flashlight
  • wind breaker

What additional gear should I bring for a riding vacation?

  • a hard riding helmet/ hat if you require one – there are none available at the estancia
  • comfortable riding jeans
  • long riding boots or short boots and half chaps

Do you have any luggage requirements?

At some point your luggage will be loaded onto either a pack horse or mule. Soft cases rather than hard cases are preferable. We ask that you pack as light as you can, and if possible, be prepared to leave some unneeded bags at Buta Mallin (we have a locked room available). If you have excess or heavy luggage notify Ashley in advance so that we can send two mules.

Can you accommodate specialized diets?

Georgie can accommodate many kinds of diets including vegetarian and vegan, however please give advance notice to Ashley of any special needs. Remember if we can’t grow it or raise it here, we have to carry it in on pack mules.

Can I charge and use electronics?

The estancia generates its own electricity and supports responsible tourism. We ask everybody to be conscious users of electricity (turning off lights when not in the room) etc. so that we don’t run out. All our cottages are fitted with Argentine plugs, so bring an adapter to charge or use your electronics. The use of electrical items such as hairdryers, curling irons and irons are not allowed.

Do you offer camping gear or should I bring my own?

(Note: All volunteers are required to bring a sleeping bag). Ranquilco has several sleeping bags of high quality, and whilst they are usually clean you may prefer to bring a liner with you. We also have several tents or tarps for overnight trips.

Are laundry services available?

Yes, we can do your laundry – cold wash only, no ironing. There is no charge – we just ask that guests reflect the washing in their gratuity.

Speaking of gratuities…

Tips and gratuities are not included in the daily rate and the ranch workers appreciate being tipped for a job well done.
