About Ranquilco

A
Gigantic Land

Ranquilco is a vast expanse of land in the Argentine Patagonia, stretching across leagues of high steppe land, river valleys, meadows, and jagged cliffs into the very heart of the Andes, and finally terminating at the border with Chile.

It is a gigantic land, filled with little miracles of nature: condors, guanaco, eagle, lakes, hot springs, lion of the mountain, hares, quails, and light-driven rainbows disguised as huge trout which swim and swarm in the many, many miles of crystal clear rivers and streams which underline the valley scapes with the vibrancy of life. Fly fishing at Ranquilco is truly a world-class experience -impossible to duplicate in other rivers.

There are no phones, no televisions, and even the electricity which is generated by falling water, sometimes releases the participants to the gentler, kinder glow of candle and fire light. Along with the miles of private water, and the leagues of unfenced and wild riding, Ranquilco has a swimming pool, squash court, volleyball court, mini gym, running track, polo field and a river side log sauna.

More than a Ranch

Ranquilco is an abundantly special place where pure Nature reigns with as little human intervention as possible. One crosses deserts, then the high steppes of the Andean foothills to the elevated summer meadows, 1,000 acres of sunshone grasses, and the trailhead towards a valley of rivers and dreams, three hours away. No vehicles, telephones, or televisions can get in. The western boundary is the border with Chile – the High Andes – graced by lakes, waterfalls, condors, hot springs and weeks of wandering.

Ranquilco is a remote 100,000 acre working cattle ranch in the Argentine Patagonia. The estancia breeds and operates about 1000 head of cattle, 30-40 horses, a small herd of merino/corriedale sheep, and goats.

There are many kinds of ranch activities to get involved in and everyone is invited to take part in the areas of their interest. We feel that it is of great value to embrace the lifestyle at the estancia and to have the free time and relaxation to open up to the timeless messages of nature.

Live Life to the Fullest

A striving for self-sufficiency is in process here as evidenced by the water turbine, the organic gardens, orchards, apiaries and livestock herds, the draft horse and feed plantations. Life is easy as befits a relative paradise. Hard work – sweat and blood – alternate with volleyball and saunas, and at night, guitars calm the day’s doings with the beauty of being. Technology is held at bay so that Nature’s songs may be better beheld. There is a powerful peace on the lands of Ranquilco that is motivating, instigating -- exciting, rather than lulling – a call to live life to the fullest, but always with attention on harmony, no harm, and personal growth.

Dream Again

Ranquilco is a place out of time, where near forgotten dreams of yesteryear are re-kindled and then see light. You come to Ranquilco for the world's best fly fishing, the unlimited and unfenced riding, the chance to re-create yourself, but you return for the magic.

Come join us and experience our secret place in the world.
